Plant Spotlight: Alabama Blue Collards
As southern as “y’all.” Picked small, tender enough to eat fresh. Picked large, you’ll save time not de-veining every single leaf and less cooking time than grocery store collards. An heirloom variety from Alabama that I’ve grown, cooked and brought to friends and family for years.
Growing notes:
• Space plants 10 - 12 inches apart.
• Needs good soil and some compost.
• Can handle some shade, but won’t grow as robustly.
• Will bolt in Georgia’s hot summers. Flowers are edible.
